Why is it so expensive to ship wine?

Thanks so much for considering buying from us! You're right -- shipping does add a significant cost.

Wine is heavy, fragile, and temperature sensitive, and there’s a surcharge to make sure that wine is only being sold to and delivered to people 21 years of age and older. The rate you see is the same amount we are charged by the carriers we use and is based on the weight of the items in your order and your address. We do realize that some larger companies are able to absorb or reduce some of those costs, and other companies inflate the item cost in order to reduce the apparent shipping cost. At Las Jaras, we prefer to be transparent about the real costs involved, and every customer gets the best deal on wine that we can offer.

We are always looking for more cost-effective ways to ship while making sure wine arrives on time and in great condition. In the meantime, we do offer complimentary shipping when you order by the case (increments of 12 bottles) and often run promotions that might make the shipping worthwhile for you.
